a little of this and a little of that....

Sorry it has been a while since I have posted but we haven't been doing too much. Ansley has found her new-found freedom with the bed situation and it isn't really going well. We have had a lot of no-naps and late nights before she finally falls asleep! She is also having nightmares and waking up at least once a night so we have all been a little sleep-deprived lately. I am hoping this is just a phase and it will soon pass. If you have any ideas to get her to stay in her bed during nap, please let me know. I am really out of ideas....
Should be napping but instead at the door

Last Thursday was Ansley's last day of school. I was a little sad because it has been nice to have 2 mornings to myself a week and now I am not sure what we are going to do all summer. Plus, Ansley will not be going back to Williamson Chapel next year, she will be going to our church, Davidson United Methodist. It will be great to have her school only a couple of minutes away and to be going to school with kids she will see on a regular basis. But WCP was a great school and her teachers were awesome. We will really miss them next year.

I took a picture of Ansley on her last day of school to document how much she has changed in the past 9 months since she first went to school. She is so independent now and absolutely LOVED school. From the first day, she never looked back and was so excited to be there with other kids.... such a wonderful feeling to watch her so happy!

May 22, 2009 - last day of school "water day"

September 2, 2008 - first day of school

As for our Memorial Day weekend, there isn't really much say. We didn't do a whole lot. The weather was so crummy with rain every day. We were able to get outside one day during the break from storms to enjoy the park. But other then that we just stayed inside. Rob and I took advantage of the bad weather by getting some house projects done (so again, nothing too exciting).
at the yacht club watching the boats come in and the ducks swim in the lake

throwing rocks in the lake... our favorite thing to do

We are ready for this rain to be over with so we can start going to the pool and just being outside! We hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend!!!

Quick Trip to Charleston

Rob is in Charleston all week for work so Ansley and I decided to join him for a couple of days (actually one full day and 2 nights). It was a very fast trip but we enjoyed just getting away!
View from our hotel room

While Rob was working, Ansley and I went to the Children's Museum...she LOVED it! I really wish we had one here in Charlotte. Her favorite was the water station. I couldn't get her out of there :) After the museum we went and had lunch at a great Mexican restaurant my friend Jenna recommended, Juanita Greenbergs. And then we headed to Isle of Palms to visit Pop-Pop. Pop-Pop was on his "men's trip" which they go on every year. They stay in this BEAUTIFUL house across the street from the beach. It is 3 story's with an elevator and a pool on the roof. Lets just say, Ansley LOVED the pool. Thankfully it was heated so Pop-Pop got in with her :)

happy girl!

We also attempted the beach. Last summer when we went to Michigan we took Ansley to the beach and she hated it! She hated the sand and would just scream. Thankfully, she doesn't mind the sand now and she loved collecting seashells and having Pop Pop throw them into the ocean. When we tried to get Ansley to go close to the water she was all about it until she got a couple of feet from the water and then she turned around and started running away, while screaming "NO BEACH" "NO BEACH"! Ha!!! We tried to explain to her that the water was the ocean and the sand was the beach. So she is ok with the beach but not the ocean! Hopefully over time she will begin to enjoy everything that goes along with the beach.

It was a very fast trip, but we had a great time looking at all the boats by our hotel, visiting Pop-Pop, going to the museum and of course seeing daddy :)

Mother's Day!

First, I want to wish my mom (Nana), Mimi, Aunt Kelly and everyone else a Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Today has been a wonderful day spent with Rob and Ansley. The morning started off with Ansley running into my room and saying "Happy Mother's Day Mommy"!!! It really melts your heart to hear those words come from your child's mouth.... This morning we went to church which I was actually excited about (I normally teach Sunday school so I do not get to go into the service so it was nice to go in and finally hear the sermon). Afterwards, we went to a great restaurant in downtown Davidson called the "Egg", it was yummy! We were stuffed after eating so Ansley went straight to bed for her nap. We then went to Davidson college to walk around in the afternoon...we discovered some great walking trails that are shaded :) And then we ended the day with Rob cooking dinner, surf n' turf!!! It was really nice to not have to worry about what we were going to have for dinner and just sit back and let Rob do the cooking.

Thank you Rob and Ansley for making this day so special to me. I love you very much!!!!

P.S. Thank you for my gift card to the spa. I can't wait to use it :)

The Party Is Over!

This afternoon I was taking a nap while Ansley was sleeping...I was exhausted. I woke up to Ansley screaming bloody murder (definitely not a normal cry or scream). I went running into her room and found her outside of her crib. Obviously she figured out how to climb out of her crib. I am not sure if the screaming was from her being scared of what just happened or she was hanging from the side of the crib and then dropped (she wouldn't have far to drop since the mattress is at its lowest setting and she is so tall). I asked her if she climbed out of her crib, and she said YES. And then I asked her to show me how she did it... I put her back in the crib and she began to lift herself up and at that point I had seen enough. Needless to say, we made a trip to Babies R Us tonight to get a bed rail. I got one of the smaller ones and put it between her crib mattress and the frame. I am not ready to put her in a big girl bed just yet.... Hopefully this will work for a while and then we can transition her into a new room with a new bed this summer.

Thankfully we haven't heard a peep from her so I hope she stays in her bed. She was really liking her new-found freedom of being able to get in and out of the bed so we will see how this all goes.

***Update: Ansley slept great and never got out of her bed. This is how I found her this morning :) ... Gotta love the bed-head look!
